He is often accompanied by his faithful companion, the bogeyman, charged with punishing disobedient children.
A Link with Santa Claus
The figure of Saint Nicholas has also inspired that of Father Christmas. In America, Dutch immigrants brought the tradition of Sinterklaas, which evolved over time to become the jolly Santa Claus.
