The story of Saint Arsène

From the grandeur of Rome to the quest for silenceSaint Arsène was born in Rome around the year 354 into a noble, cultured and Christian family. Gifted with a keen intelligence and a fine mind, he received a thorough education in the liberal arts, languages, philosophy and theology. He was ordained a deacon and soon became a trusted figure in the imperial entourage. Emperor Theodosius chose him as tutor to his two sons, Arcadius and Honorius. Arsène lived for several years in the splendour and refinement of the imperial court of Constantinople.But deep inside him, a worry grew. This luxury, fame and responsibility were not nourishing his soul. He felt a deep call to detach himself from the world and seek God in silence. Around the age of 40, Arsène left everything behind: his imperial office, his riches, his privileges.
