Lord Almighty,
You who are the source of all life and love,
You have created us in your image, called to be witnesses to your kingdom,
A kingdom of peace, justice and unity.
Today we come before you, humble and trusting,
Bearing in our hearts the desire for a united Church,
Reunited in your truth and in your infinite love.
Lord Jesus Christ,
You who prayed that all your disciples might be one,
As you and the Father are one,
We ask your forgiveness for our divisions,
For the walls we have erected between us out of pride, ignorance or indifference.
You who have reached out to the outcast, forgiven sinners and welcomed strangers,
Help us to reach out to our brothers and sisters in the faith,
Even when our paths seem to diverge.
Make us peacemakers,
Builders of bridges between Churches and Christian communities.
Holy Spirit, breath of life,
You who unite us in one faith,
Come to enlighten our minds and warm our hearts.
Inspire us with words of reconciliation and gestures of brotherhood.
Help us to overcome our doctrinal differences,
To seek that which brings us together rather than that which separates us.
Make us attentive to the richness and beauty of the traditions of other faiths,
That we may see in them a reflection of your glory.
God of light and hope,
Give us the courage to walk together,
Even when the path seems difficult or uncertain.
Help us to recognise that, despite our differences,
We are all united by our baptism into you,
Members of one body, called to serve you and the world.
Learn us to live unity in diversity,
To see in our differences gifts you have entrusted to us,
To enrich your Church and let your light shine in the world.
Lord, make us credible witnesses to your Gospel.
May our love for one another be a sign to the world,
A witness to your presence among us.
Help us to work together for justice,
To reach out to the poor, oppressed and marginalised,
To protect your creation and promote peace.
May your Spirit guide our churches in their common mission,
That together we may proclaim your glory
And proclaim the Good News to all nations.
Eternal Father,
We entrust our prayer to you with faith and hope.
We know that, through your grace, unity is possible,
For nothing is impossible with you,
You who make all things new.
We give you thanks for the progress already made on the road to unity,
For the dialogues between the churches,
For the gestures of friendship and reconciliation.
Continue your work in us and among us, Lord,
Until the day when we can all, with one voice,
Praise, glorify and serve you,
In perfect and eternal unity.
Amen.
