Lord our God,
in this light-filled month of August,
we come to lay before You our joys,
our concerns, our families and all those we love.
May this summer be for us
a time of rest, peace and a return to You.
Teach us to slow down, to contemplate,
to give thanks for the little wonders of each day
and to recognise Your presence on our paths.
In this month marked by so many beautiful feasts,
we turn our thoughts in particular to the Virgin Mary.
On 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption,
we celebrate Mary being taken up into glory with her Son.
Holy Virgin, Mother of God and our Mother,
take us under your protection.
Watch over our families, our children,
the sick, those who are alone
and all those who are going through a trial.
Our Lady of the Assumption,
teach us to keep our trust when the path becomes difficult.
Help us to say ‘yes’ to God, as you did,
with simplicity, courage and faithfulness.
In this month of August, we also entrust to the Lord
those who are travelling, those who are working whilst others are resting,
those who are experiencing loneliness, illness or bereavement,
and all those for whom summer is not a time for holidays.
Lord Jesus,
pour out Your peace upon our homes,
Your hope in our hearts
and Your light in each of our decisions.
May the Virgin Mary accompany us every day,
that she may present our prayers to her Son
and lead us ever closer to Him.
Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us.
Mary, Queen of Heaven, protect our families.
Saint Joseph, watch over our homes.
Lord Jesus, remain with us throughout this month of August.
