The Day of Silence
Good Friday is one of the most solemn days of the Christian year. The Church does not celebrate Mass. The bells are silent. The atmosphere becomes solemn and contemplative. This day commemorates the Passion and death of Jesus on the cross. There is no triumph, no apparent light. Only silence and contemplation.
The cross at the centre
At the heart of the Good Friday celebration is the cross. The faithful come forward to venerate it. This gesture may seem paradoxical: honouring an instrument of torture.
But the cross is not only a symbol of suffering. It becomes a sign of love that goes to the very end.
Jesus does not suffer passively. He gives himself freely.
A love that transcends suffering
The Passion narrative confronts us with betrayal, denial, injustice and violence.
Good Friday reveals to us that love is stronger than hatred.
A call to contemplation
This day invites us to slow down, to meditate, to enter into the mystery.
What does the cross represent in my life?
Am I ready to bear my own trials with confidence?
Good Friday is not a day of despair. It is a passage.
A time of silent hope
Christ's death is not the end of the story. It opens a path.
Good Friday teaches us that even in the darkest moments, God is present.
The silence of this day already carries the promise of the Resurrection.
Prayer for Good Friday
Lord Jesus,
on this Good Friday,
help me to contemplate your cross with faith.
Give me the strength to bear my trials
with confidence and hope.
May your love transform my wounds
into a path of life.
Amen.
