A time to slow down and refocus
Every year, Lent returns almost discreetly. Yet it carries with it a powerful invitation. For forty days, the Church offers a path. A path towards Easter, but above all a path towards oneself.
Lent is not just a liturgical period. It is a time to slow down, to step away from the noise of everyday life, to ask ourselves the right questions. Where am I in my faith? What is distancing me from God? What is weighing on my heart? In a fast-paced world, this time becomes almost precious. It offers a space to breathe differently.
Stripping away to grow better
Lent is often associated with fasting. But fasting is not a meaningless deprivation. It is a means. A means of detaching oneself from what takes up too much space.
Voluntarily depriving oneself of something, even in a simple way, allows one to rediscover inner freedom. This can be food, screens, certain habits, or even negative attitudes.
By stripping away, we create space. And in that space, God can act.
Transformation does not happen in spectacular ways. It happens through daily faithfulness, through small, repeated efforts.
Prayer, fasting, sharing: an inner balance
Lent is based on three pillars: prayer, fasting and sharing. These three dimensions are linked.
Prayer transforms our outlook.
Fasting transforms our hearts.
Sharing transforms our relationships.
When these three aspects are lived together, something profound changes. Lent then becomes a true time of conversion.
It is not a time of sadness, but a time of truth. And the truth sets us free.
A path to Easter, a path to the light
Lent prepares us for the joy of Easter. But this joy is not superficial. It comes from a renewed heart.
Inner transformation does not mean becoming perfect. It means accepting to move forward, step by step. Accepting to fall and get back up. Accepting that God works in us, sometimes slowly.
Lent is a time of patience. A time when we accept to let God shape our hearts.
What if this period became, this year, a real new beginning?
Prayer for Lent
Lord,
during this season of Lent,
come and transform my heart deeply.
Help me to detach myself from what distances me from you.
Give me the strength to move forward with confidence.
May these forty days bring me closer to your light.
Amen.
