A journey to be shared together
Lent is often seen as a personal journey. However, it can also be a wonderful journey to be shared as a couple or as a family. Sharing this spiritual time allows us to support each other, grow together and give a more concrete dimension to our faith.
Experiencing Lent as a couple or as a family means choosing to move forward together towards Easter.
Establish a small daily ritual
There is no need to disrupt the entire family routine. A simple daily appointment may suffice. A few minutes of prayer in the evening, reading a short passage from the Gospel, or sharing a prayer intention together.
For children, a visual gesture can help: lighting a candle, placing a drawing near a cross, creating a small prayer corner in the house.
Regularity counts more than duration.
Choose a common effort
Lent can also become a shared commitment. As a couple, this could mean deciding to limit screen time in the evening to encourage dialogue. As a family, it could mean reducing a shared habit in order to make a donation. Choosing a joint effort creates a positive dynamic. Everyone feels involved. The key is to ensure that the effort is appropriate to each person's age and responsibilities.
Cultivating patience and forgiveness
Lent is a time of conversion. As a couple or as a family, this often involves improving relationships.
Taking the time to listen more, avoiding hurtful words, asking for forgiveness more readily... These small changes have a profound impact.
Inner transformation is also experienced in the way we love each other on a daily basis.
Preparing for Holy Week together
Involving the whole family in preparing for Easter can make this time more meaningful. Explain the celebrations, attend a service, observe a moment of silence on Good Friday.
These shared memories leave a lasting mark on our hearts.
Lent lived as a family becomes a living testimony.
Growing together
Living Lent as a couple or as a family does not mean being perfect. There will be oversights, difficulties, and moments of low motivation.
But moving forward together gives strength. This time can become an opportunity to strengthen bonds, to rediscover the meaning of giving and serving.
Lent is not just an individual effort. It can become a shared adventure.
Prayer for Lent as a family
Lord,
be with our couple and our family
during this time of Lent.
Help us to grow together in love.
Teach us forgiveness and patience.
May our home become a place of peace and faith.
Amen.
