Saint Teresa of Avila, the great Carmelite reformer and Doctor of the Church, was a woman of fire and prayer. Born in Spain in the 16th century, she experienced spiritual fervour from an early age, but also illness and inner struggle.
Her deep love for Christ led her to a life of intense mystical union, marked by absolute trust in God. A founder, writer and spiritual guide, she taught people to seek peace in the silence and presence of the Lord.
O St Teresa of Avila, soul burning with love and humility, you who discovered the treasure of Heaven in the depths of inner silence, teach me to pray from the heart. Help me to find in prayer not words, but an encounter, not a duty, but a surge of love towards the One who knows me and is waiting for me.
You who went through trials, doubts and illnesses without ever turning your gaze away from Christ, be my companion in moments of weakness. Obtain for me the grace to love Jesus with ardour, to hope without wavering, and to serve with a pure heart.
St. Teresa, you who said that "nothing troubles you, nothing frightens you", teach me to remain peaceful even when everything around me falters. May I rely on God's faithfulness, which never changes. May my faith be a fortress, my prayer a shelter, my soul a place where God rests.
You who founded communities built on poverty, prayer and brotherhood, inspire me with simplicity of heart. Deliver me from pride and fear, from the desire to understand everything, so that I may be guided by the inner light that the Holy Spirit places in every faithful soul.
O Saint Thérèse, mystic of the Heart of Jesus, obtain for me the grace of an ardent faith and a love that transforms. Intercede for me with the Lord so that I may live in trust, abandonment and joy, even in the midst of difficulties. May my life become prayer, may my prayer become life.
I entrust to you my intentions, my struggles and my hopes. Bring them before the throne of God, so that through your intercession I may be strengthened, consoled and renewed in love. And that, following your example, I may say every day, "Let nothing trouble me, for God alone is enough."
Amen.
