A feast at the heart of the faith
The feast of the Holy Trinity, celebrated on the Sunday following Pentecost, is one of the most profound and central in the liturgical calendar. Unlike other feasts that commemorate an event (such as Christmas or Easter), the Trinity celebrates a mystery of faith: one God in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
This mystery is at the heart of the Creed that we proclaim at every Mass. It is not an abstract concept or one reserved for theologians, but a living mystery that shapes the way we believe, pray and love.
A mystery revealed in love
God is not solitary: he is communion. The Father begets the Son, the Son gives himself to the Father, and from this mutual love springs the Spirit. The Trinity is therefore a perfect and eternal relationship of love, a God who is both unity and gift, faithfulness and dynamism.
In Jesus Christ, God reveals His true nature to us: He is loving Father, saving Son, consoling Spirit. The Trinity is not a puzzle to be solved, but a love to be contemplated, welcomed and lived.
What the Trinity changes in our lives
Believing in the Trinity transforms our view of God and of ourselves. It means:
- That we are created in the image of a God of relationship: made to love, to be connected.
- That the Christian life is a call to live in communion with God and others.
- That every prayer connects us to the Father through the Son in the Spirit.
- That in our trials, the Father sustains us, the Son walks with us, the Spirit enlightens us.
The Trinity is not a cold dogma: it is a living presence in everyday life, a source of unity in our divisions, a light in our confusions.
A feast to praise and adore
The feast of the Holy Trinity is above all an invitation to adoration. It is a time for wonder, thanksgiving and praise. In the liturgy, this feast is distinguished by rich songs, solemn prayers and a surge of faith. It reminds us that God is greater than anything we can understand, but that He makes Himself close in His love.
It is also a time to renew our baptism, which immerses us in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and to rekindle in us the grace of being children of God.
Concluding prayer
God our Father,
You who created us out of love,
We praise and bless You.
Lord Jesus,
You who save us and reveal to us the face of the Father,
We follow You and adore You.
Holy Spirit,
You who sanctify us and dwell in our hearts,
Come and renew our faith and unity.
Holy Trinity,
Mystery of light and life,
Be praised, today and for ever.
Amen.
