The Magi, guided by the star, have come from afar to pay homage to the King of kings, Jesus Christ. Their journey symbolises the quest for truth and the recognition of Jesus' divinity. By meditating on their faith and devotion, this prayer invites each of us to offer our own lives as a gift to Christ.
Prayer of the Magi before the King of kings
O Jesus, King of kings and Lord of lords,
Like the Magi from the East,
We prostrate ourselves before you with humility and adoration.
Guided by the light of your star,
We come to offer you what we hold most precious:
Our hearts, our lives, and our faith.
Lord, you who were born in the humility of a manger,
Learn us to recognise your greatness,
Even in simplicity and discretion.
As the Magi crossed the deserts to find you,
Help us to overcome our doubts and fears,
And to persevere in our search for your truth.
We offer you gold,
As a symbol of our love and adoration.
Reign over our lives with justice and mercy,
And make us faithful servants of your kingdom.
We offer you incense,
Symbol of our prayers that ascend to you.
Receive our supplications, Lord,
And purify our souls that we may be worthy of your presence.
We offer you myrrh,
Symbol of our sufferings and our hopes.
Help us to bear our crosses with courage,
And transform our trials into opportunities for grace.
O Divine Child,
We pray that your star will continue to shine in our lives,
To guide our steps and illuminate our darkness.
Learn us to be witnesses to your light,
Sharing your peace and love with everyone we meet.
Lord Jesus,
As the Magi changed their ways after meeting you,
Help us to turn away from what leads us away from you,
And to walk the way of faith, hope and charity.
King of kings,
We honour and praise you,
You who came to save the world.
Receive our offerings, our prayers and our lives,
And make us faithful disciples of your eternal love.
Amen.
The Magi's prayer before the King of Kings is an invitation to recognise Jesus as the centre of our lives and to offer him what we hold most precious. Following their example, we are called to worship, persevere and bear witness to the light of Christ in the world.
