St John, the beloved disciple of Jesus, is the apostle of love and fidelity. He was the youngest of the apostles and the only one to remain at the foot of the Cross, at the side of the Virgin Mary, receiving from her the mission to take her as his mother. The author of the Fourth Gospel, the Letters of John and the Apocalypse, he passed on to us profound words about the light, truth and love of God. He is invoked as a spiritual guide, protector of the faithful and intercessor with Christ.
Powerful prayer to Saint John
O Saint John, beloved disciple of the Lord, you who rested your head on his heart at the Last Supper, we come to you today with humility and trust. You who have known the intimacy of Jesus, obtain for us the grace to live a deep and sincere relationship with Him.
Apostle of love, teach us to love as Christ has loved us, without measure and without fear. Inspire our hearts with tenderness, patience and mercy, so that we may become credible witnesses to the Gospel in our world marked by indifference and division.
Saint John, you who received the mission of taking Mary as your Mother, guide us towards her with confidence. Teach us to welcome her maternal presence in our lives, to allow ourselves to be consoled by her and to walk under her protection towards Jesus, her beloved Son.
You who contemplated the mystery of the Cross, obtain for us the courage to remain faithful in times of trial. When suffering befalls us, when hope is extinguished, remind us that Christ's love is stronger than death and that the resurrection is the certain promise of our future.
St John, evangelist of light, enlighten our understanding in the darkness of our doubts. Through your writings, you remind us that God is love and that he who abides in love abides in God. Help us to build our lives on this truth, to live as children of light, and to shun everything that distances us from friendship with Jesus.
O St John, prophet of the Apocalypse, you who beheld the glory of the victorious Lamb, open our eyes to the beauty of the promised Kingdom. In our daily struggles, foster in us the certainty that Christ triumphs over evil and prepares for us an eternal home with the Father.
Beloved disciple, intercede for our families, protect our young people, support the sick and console those who weep. Present our prayers before the throne of God and make us faithful to the last breath, so that with you we may eternally sing the love of Christ.
Saint John, pray for us and lead us ever closer to the Heart of Jesus.
