O St James, beloved apostle of the Lord,
you who left everything to follow Christ on the roads of Galilee,
you who heard his words of eternity,
and who offered your life as a witness to his love,
we come to you, pilgrims of the earth and seekers of light.
You, tireless traveller of the Gospel,
who carried the Good News to the ends of the earth,
teach us to walk in faithfulness and trust.
When the road becomes rough and our strength wears thin,
support our faltering steps and rekindle in us the flame of hope.
St James, friend of Christ and witness to his glory,
you who saw his face shine on Tabor
and shared his agony in Gethsemane,
help us to recognise his presence in our joys as well as in our trials.
Help us to keep our eyes fixed on him,
so that we may never stray far from his love.
Protector of pilgrims, companion on the road,
you whose tomb has attracted so many men and women for centuries,
accompany all those who seek meaning in their lives.
Be for each one a star that lights up the night,
a brother who encourages, a guide who leads to God.
O St James, intercede for us with the Father,
that we may receive the courage to bear witness to the Gospel,
the humility to serve our brothers and sisters,
and the grace to love without measure.
May our whole life become a pilgrimage to the Kingdom,
where, with you and all the saints,
we will eternally sing the glory of the risen Christ.
Amen.
