A woman marked by mercy
Among the most moving figures of the Gospel, Saint Mary Magdalene occupies a unique place. Long wrongly reduced to an image of a repentant sinner, she is above all a woman transfigured by the love of Christ. Freed from seven demons, she became one of Jesus' most faithful disciples. Her journey tells of the power of divine mercy, capable of lifting up, illuminating, and transforming a wounded life into a shining testimony.
Present when so many others flee
Mary Magdalene is one of those women who follow Jesus to the end, all the way to the cross. When the apostles fled, she stood by Him. She watched, she wept, she still hoped, despite everything. Through her faithfulness, she embodies a burning and courageous faith, which does not allow itself to be crushed by fear or despair.
The first to see the Risen One
It is to her that Jesus chooses to appear first after His Resurrection. In the garden of the tomb, her tears turn to light when she hears her name spoken by the One she thought lost forever. "Mary! - this simple call reveals all the tenderness of Christ and the depth of the bond that united them. It makes her the apostle of the apostles, the one who is sent to proclaim Life to those who have abandoned her.
A path of intimacy and contemplation
Mary Magdalene is the symbol of the soul that thirsts for God. She is not content to know Jesus from afar. She wants to follow Him, listen to Him, serve Him and love Him. Her presence at the foot of the cross and before the tomb shows the depth of her relationship with the Lord. She is also the one who dares to express her emotions, her pain, her tenderness, her joy. She teaches us that faith is also a matter of the heart, of intimacy, of a personal relationship with Christ.
A saint for our time
In a world where so many men and women struggle to recover from their wounds, Mary Magdalene reminds us that no one is condemned to their past. She shows that mercy is stronger than judgement, that God's love can remake all things. She speaks to damaged hearts, to seekers of truth, to those who love passionately and who do not want a lukewarm faith.
A mysterious presence in Provence
Tradition tells us that after the Ascension, Mary Magdalene was carried by the waves to Provence, where she lived in prayer and penitence in a grotto on the Sainte-Baume. Today, this place is still a place of pilgrimage, where many believers come to entrust their hearts. She remains there as a beacon for those seeking light.
Prayer to Saint Mary Magdalene
Saint Mary Magdalene,
You who have known the strength of forgiveness,
and the joy of a heart lifted by mercy,
intercede for us.
Learn us to love Jesus as you loved Him,
to remain faithful even in the dark,
to seek His presence in our nights.
You who saw Him risen,
enable us to proclaim Life with courage,
to bear witness to the power of love,
and to walk, as you did,
in truth and trust.
Amen.
